New York | November 9, 2025- Central New York is welcoming the first snowfall of the season, bringing a festive touch of white across the region and signaling the start of winter preparations. Locals have greeted the snowfall with a mix of excitement, nostalgia, and caution.
From Saturday morning, light to moderate snow has been falling in Syracuse, Tipperary Hill, Liverpool, and surrounding areas. Children have been busy building snowmen, while adults shared photos of snow-covered streets and homes on social media, expressing their delight.
Local resident Michael Spinner said,
“Every time the first snow falls, I go outside with my younger siblings to build snowmen. We wait for this moment all year long.”
Meanwhile, Syracuse resident Stephen Giannota added,
“Honestly, snow for me means a warm blanket, hot coffee, and sitting peacefully at home. The first day of snow brings me a sense of mental calm.”
However, alongside the joy, the snowfall also reminds residents to prepare for the winter. After experiencing a shortage of salt supply last year, many have already stocked up on salt and made arrangements for clearing driveways. A local shop owner shared,
“Last year, heavy snow caught us off guard and we ran out of salt. This time, we’ve prepared in advance to avoid that problem.”
According to the National Weather Service, lake-effect snow may intensify from Monday night through Tuesday, potentially reducing visibility in Syracuse, Onondaga County, and nearby areas. Motorists are advised to exercise caution.
Local authorities have already deployed snow removal equipment to ensure safe roads and public safety.
The first snow of the season brings a fresh start to Central New York, covering the city in a white blanket and giving residents a renewed sense of wonder as winter officially arrives.
