NY1: An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect through Tuesday night as temperatures are expected to peak near 100 degrees, with feels-like readings possibly reaching 110 degrees.
If the city hits 100 degrees, it would mark the earliest 100-degree day since records began in 1869. It’s also a rare milestone for June as only three 100-degree days have ever been recorded in the month, with the last one in 1966.
Thunderstorms on Wednesday are expected to bring some relief from the extreme heat with highs falling to the 70s by Friday.
Cooling centers are open across the five boroughs to help residents stay safe.
