NY Daily News: Major MAGA financier Elon Musk says he plans to cutback on political contributions and punish critics who take out their disdain for him on Tesla vehicles.
The richest man in history, who spent nearly $300 million in support of President Trump’s 2024 election agenda, told attendees at Tuesday’s Qatar Economic Forum he doesn’t plan to do that again.
“In terms of political spending, I’m going to do a lot less in the future,” Musk said. “I think I’ve done enough.”
Asked if his decision to scale back the amount of money he gives to politicians is based on the negative reactions he and his electric vehicle company experienced as a result of his checkbook activism, the hundred-billionaire indicated he already got what he wanted.
“If I see a reason to do political spending in the future I’ll do it. I currently don’t see a reason,” Musk said.
Musk’s support of MAGA at home and far-right groups like Germany’s AfD party overseas resulted in a backlash that saw Tesla products and vehicles vandalized and set afire in the U.S., Europe and Canada.
The 53-year-old South Africa native said Tuesday he takes those attacks personally.
“Something needs to be done about them and a number of them are going to prison and they deserve it,” Musk said.
