WABC: The $8 billion casino proposed for Queens and backed by Mets owner Steve Cohen is the final plan to be approved by a Community Advisory Committee.
The local advisory committees decide if the local proposals should advance to the state Gaming Commission, which plans on awarding up to three licenses in December.
The final proposal, Metropolitan Park at Citi Field, was approved Tuesday morning in a unanimous 6-0 vote.
It would transform the 50-acre parking lot around Citi Field into a sports and entertainment complex.
So far, three proposals have survived local scrutiny.
The MGM Empire City casino in Yonkers
Resorts World New York City at the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens
Bally’s Bronx in Ferry Point
Three Manhattan casino proposals were all defeated earlier this month, including plans for locations in Times Square, Hudson Yards and near the United Nations.
And on Monday, a community board rejected a proposal for The Coney in Coney Island, Brooklyn.
The state’s four-member Gaming Facility Location Board will award three casino licenses in December.
