Entertainment Desk: A sequel to “F1”, the Brad Pitt-starrer that became Apple’s highest-grossing film to date, may be on the horizon. Director Joseph Kosinski has confirmed that early discussions are underway about continuing the story of veteran driver Sonny Hayes.
Speaking to Variety, the “Top Gun: Maverick” filmmaker said, “We are in that stage where we are just kind of dreaming up what the next chapter for Sonny Hayes would be and for Apex GP. Based on the reaction from around the world, it’s something people want to see, and we would be happy to go back and do it because we had so much fun making this one.”
Released earlier this year, “F1” crossed USD 600 million worldwide by August, according to ESPN, making it the highest-grossing Apple Original Films release and the most successful sports film ever made.
The film follows Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a former Formula One star who returns to the grid with the fictional APXGP team. Its box-office success saw it surpass Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” (USD 221m) and Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” (USD 158m), setting a record for Apple Studios, The Independent reported.
Apple Original Films has confirmed that “F1: The Movie” will make its global streaming debut on Apple TV on 12 December.
