By Zahan Ara: The Shah Foundation, a non-profit organisation that fights poverty, sickness, and poverty discrimination, arranged a blood donation drive in New York.

On August 15, blood donors gathered in Jackson Heights, New York, for a voluntary blood donation drive coordinated in cooperation with Nabanno Restaurant with New York Blood Center.

According to our New York correspondent, aside from Bangladeshi immigrants, foreign nationals also volunteered in this blood donation drive.

The campaign ran from 1:30 PM to 7:00 PM. According to the organisers, around 41 bags of blood were collected throughout the campaign.

New York Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz inaugurated the programme. Fahad Solaiman, South Asian Advisor to the New York City Mayor and Director of the Shah Foundation, was present as the guest of honour.

Shah J. Choudhury, founder and president of the Shah Foundation; Fauzia J Choudhury, co-founder of Shah Group; businessman and director of the Shah Foundation, AKM Fazlul Haque; Moinul Islam; Moinuzzaman Chowdhury; all team members of the Shah Foundation; Mizanur Rahman, editor of the weekly Desh magazine; Nazmul Ahsan, editor of the weekly Parichoy magazine; and photojournalist Nehar Sidyiqui were present at the event.

According to Assemblywoman Catlina Cruz, “the Shah Foundation has always worked for the welfare of people. That is why I have and will continue to support the Shah Foundation.”

Fahad Solaiman stated, “I am honoured to serve as a director of the Shah Foundation.” Because this foundation has been serving humanity since its inception.

Speaking to the Ruposhi Bangla on behalf of the Shah Foundation, Shah J. Choudhury said, “Today, my sincere thanks and gratitude to those who extended their hand of cooperation to make this programme a success.”

He also added that the blood donation programme will continue. He stated, “We all need to donate blood.” No organisation is required for humanitarian activity; excellent work can be done on one’s own initiative.

Fauzia J. Choudhury said that donating blood means saving lives. We should all volunteer to donate blood. Nothing is more rewarding than saving a human life.

President of the JBBA, Harun Bhuiyan; Community President of Jackson Heights, Shakeel Mia; General Secretary Mohammad Alam Nomi; Acting President of Jalalabad Association of Traders, Shaheen Kamali; General Secretary Moinul Islam; Co-Founder of the Shah Group, Husneara Choudhury; Sadia J Choudhury; Salman J Choudhury; SM Solaiman Patwari; Mohammad Hosain Dipu; Nihar Siddddiqui; MD Azizul Haque; Joint General Secretary of the JBBA, Mofizur Rahman; Mohammad Kibria; writer Humayun Kabir Dhali; and others were present in the programme as guests of honour.
