A day after the opening night of the Democratic National Convention—which featured speeches from President Joe Biden and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton — Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-Manhattan) said the crowd walked away energized.
Espaillat described Biden’s speech on Monday as more than just a “farewell speech.”
“It was really also a night where many, many spoke about in his great four years and what he accomplished for the American people. It was that and a lot more. It was an electric night and a great night to kick off the convention,” he said during a Tuesday appearance on “Mornings On 1.”
Espaillat also highlighted the significance of the night for women’s history, stating he felt confident in Harris’ ability to clinch the election.
Surveys from various pollsters indicate a tight race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
Since Harris entered the race, replacing Biden, she has generally held a narrow lead. The most recent New York Times/Siena College poll, released over the weekend, shows Trump trailing Harris by four percentage points in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Despite the close competition, Espaillat expressed a strong sense of unity within the Democratic Party and confidence in Harris’ lead.
“I think we’re going to win this election, and I haven’t seen this kind of enthusiasm and momentum in a long, long time. And so, we’re getting ready to back Kamala Harris,” he said.
