NPR-PBS-Marist Poll Shows Democrats With an 8-Point Advantage in the Congressional Vote; Trump’s Approval Ratings Remain Low Ahead of November 3 Elections

Sadia J. Choudhury:
— Democrats are leading Republicans by eight percentage points in the congressional midterm elections, according to a new NPR-PBS News-Marist poll, as President Donald Trump faces widespread voter dissatisfaction ahead of the November 3 election.

The survey found that 52% of likely voters favor Democrats in the congressional contest, compared with 44% who support Republicans. The findings highlight the political challenges facing the president’s party as voters prepare to decide control of Congress.

Trump’s job approval remains a central issue. Among registered voters, 38% approve of his performance, while 61% disapprove. Among likely voters, his approval stands at 40%, compared with 59% who disapprove.

The poll also points to strong anti-Trump sentiment among some voters. Forty-four percent of likely voters said their congressional vote would primarily represent opposition to Trump, while 21% said it would reflect support for the president.

Despite their polling advantage, Democrats face challenges of their own. Voter enthusiasm varies across key demographic groups, raising questions about turnout. The cost of living, food and energy prices, and broader economic concerns are also shaping the political debate.

The November 3 midterm elections will determine which party controls Congress and influence the direction of federal policy for the remainder of Trump’s term. Although the national poll gives Democrats an advantage, individual congressional races and voter turnout could significantly affect the final outcome.
