Strong Winds, Heavy Rain and Coastal Flooding Raise Concerns Across the Tri-State Area

A powerful Nor’easter is bringing strong winds, heavy rain, rough surf and the threat of coastal flooding to New York, Long Island and parts of New Jersey.
The storm is expected to intensify Saturday, with coastal areas facing wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph. Some parts of Long Island could see gusts approaching 70 mph, raising the risk of downed trees, power outages and travel disruptions.
Coastal communities along Long Island and the Jersey Shore are facing an increased risk of flooding, particularly during high tide. Low-lying areas could also experience significant water accumulation and dangerous driving conditions.
The storm has already disrupted transportation in parts of Long Island, with fallen trees affecting sections of railroad tracks and causing service interruptions.
New York City and surrounding communities are under weather advisories, with residents urged to closely monitor conditions and follow local emergency guidance.
SAFETY ALERT: Residents are advised to avoid coastal and low-lying areas, never drive through floodwaters, secure loose outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of strong winds.
The storm’s effects could continue through Sunday before conditions gradually improve.
