The Shock Gloves ICE Wants Are Already Inside 29 Omaha Schools, Used On 2 Students Already

A wearable electrical device isn’t coming to Omaha’s public schools. It’s already there. School resource officers at 29 of 34 Omaha-area public schools are carrying the G.L.O.V.E. — a conducted-energy glove made by Compliant Technologies — and it has been used on two students this school year. Meanwhile, ICE is reportedly eyeing the same product line for a procurement worth up to $20 million. One device. Two very different contexts. The question connecting them isn’t hypothetical anymore.
What the G.L.O.V.E. Actually Does
Direct contact, no distance — understanding how this device works explains exactly why its school deployment matters.
No projectile. No distance. This device requires skin contact to work. The G.L.O.V.E. — Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter — is worn like a glove, activated by a wrist switch, and delivers an electrical impulse directly through contact pads. Compliant Technologies markets it as a lower-force option compared to other conducted-energy tools, positioning it alongside corrections, military, and security applications. That direct-contact requirement isn’t a minor technical footnote. It defines everything about how it gets used — and on whom.
Here’s what the reporting shows:
29 of 34 Omaha-area public schools have equipped school resource officers with the gloves; 5 more have training pending, spanning Omaha, Westside, Millard, and Elkhorn districts
Used twice during the 2025–2026 school year — both times on students
First use: applied to a trespassing student’s wrist for approximately two seconds during a fight at Omaha South High
Second use: two deployments — roughly one second, then two to three seconds — on a student at the Integrated Learning Program who threatened staff and threw a chair
