Husneara Choudhury: — A foundation is being established in memory of U.S. Army Sgt. Angel Sarah Rampersad, a 28-year-old Queens resident whose life was cut short while serving her country.

Rampersad, a resident of Ozone Park, was killed on July 17 in a missile and drone attack at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. She was serving with the U.S. Army’s 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment.

Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Rampersad moved to the United States with her family when she was just two years old and grew up in Queens. She attended Forest Hills High School before earning a degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She joined the U.S. Army in 2019 at the age of 21.

Family members and friends remember Rampersad as a compassionate, determined and courageous young woman who cared deeply about others. Her commitment to serving her country reflected the same sense of responsibility and strength that defined her character throughout her life.

Following her death, Ozone Park and communities across Queens came together to mourn the loss of a hometown hero. Community members, elected officials, veterans and local leaders have paid tribute to her courage, dedication and ultimate sacrifice.

The proposed foundation aims to preserve Rampersad’s memory while carrying forward the values she represented. Through community service and charitable initiatives, the organization is expected to focus on supporting young people, education and programs that encourage civic responsibility and service.

The foundation will also provide a lasting way for future generations to learn about Rampersad’s life and the sacrifice she made in service to the United States.

Although her life ended at just 28, her legacy continues to resonate throughout Queens. For her family, friends and community, the foundation represents more than a memorial—it is an opportunity to transform grief into service and ensure that Sgt. Angel Sarah Rampersad’s spirit of courage, compassion and dedication lives on.
