City Pays Tribute to Heroic Officer Killed in Midtown Manhattan Mass Shooting

A Bronx street has been renamed in honor of NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, who was killed in the line of duty during the tragic mass shooting at a Midtown Manhattan office building. The street, now named “Detective Didarul Islam Way,” stands as a lasting tribute to his courage, dedication, and sacrifice.
The renaming ceremony in the Soundview section of the Bronx brought together Officer Islam’s family, fellow NYPD officers, community leaders, and local residents to remember the life and service of a respected public servant.
Officer Didarul Islam lost his life while performing his duty during the devastating shooting at a Park Avenue office building in Manhattan. The tragedy shocked New York City and claimed multiple lives. In recognition of his ultimate sacrifice and commitment to service, he was posthumously promoted to Detective.
During the emotional ceremony, speakers remembered Officer Islam not only as a dedicated member of the NYPD, but also as a loving husband, caring father, and a proud member of the community. They honored his bravery and the values he represented—service, responsibility, and compassion.
