Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that a historic peace agreement has been reached between Israel and Hamas, paving the way for the release of 48 Israeli hostages held in Gaza. He expressed hope that all hostages could be freed by Monday.
The agreement is identified as the first step in Trump’s 20-point Middle East peace plan. Under the terms, Israel will withdraw its forces from specific areas of Gaza, and Hamas will begin releasing the hostages. A senior White House official noted that once the Israeli Cabinet approves the agreement on Thursday, a 72-hour countdown will begin, after which Hamas will start freeing the hostages.
Trump described the agreement as “perhaps the biggest deal” and highlighted the United States’ role in Gaza’s reconstruction and the establishment of long-term peace. He stated that recent U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities and tariff policies made this deal possible. In addition, Iran has expressed support for the agreement.
A White House official reiterated that once the Israeli Cabinet approves the deal, the 72-hour countdown will begin, followed by the release of the hostages.
The agreement has opened new prospects for peace in the Gaza region and has received positive reactions from the international community.
