New York, August 26, 2025— New York Governor Kathy Hochul revealed that she directly called former President Donald Trump to reject any proposal to deploy the National Guard in New York City.
During the Saturday night call, Governor Hochul made it clear that the city’s law enforcement is under control and additional troops are unnecessary. She stated, “We are fully capable of managing the situation ourselves. Our police force is doing its job, crime rates are decreasing, and there is no need for the National Guard.”
Recent NYPD data supports her claims, showing a roughly 5% decrease in shootings and serious crimes compared to 2024. New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch also emphasized that “crime is under control, and extra forces are not needed.”
While Trump had expressed willingness to send the Guard, Governor Hochul firmly declined. She remarked, “Our policies are working effectively. The President may be trying to turn this issue into political theater, but New Yorkers have nothing to fear.”
Political analysts suggest that, ahead of the next presidential election, Trump may be highlighting law-and-order issues in major cities to strengthen his political stance. However, Hochul’s direct response sends a strong message to New Yorkers: “We are fully capable of ensuring the city’s safety on our own.
