New York: A high-speed response to a reported shooting in the Rockaways turned chaotic Monday night when two NYPD patrol vehicles collided with each other, injuring four officers.
The incident occurred around 10:10 PM at the intersection of Rockaway Freeway and Beach 35th Street, a complex area where three streets converge beneath the elevated A-line subway tracks.
According to eyewitnesses, one cruiser suffered severe front-end damage while the other was hit from the side. The officers involved were quickly transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where all four were reported to be in stable condition.
Police sources confirm that the officers were responding to a shots-fired call in the vicinity when the collision happened. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and it’s unclear whether any suspects were found.
Investigators are now working to determine the exact cause of the crash. It’s also not yet known whether any civilian vehicles were involved or if road conditions contributed to the collision.
The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is leading the probe into this multi-unit crash involving emergency responders.
