A horrific and heartbreaking act of murder took place at the gate of Dhaka’s Mitford Hospital — a scene that seems to surpass even the most brutal atrocities of the world.
Initial reports suggest that the barbarity stemmed from business rivalry, power struggles, or extortion.
Moin, known as a candidate for the position of General Secretary of the BNP-affiliated Chawkbazar Thana Jubo Dal, along with his associates, mercilessly killed Sohag, a scrap trader.
Eyewitnesses say Sohag was beaten, his head crushed with bricks and stones until his death was certain.
Even then, they did not stop. Instead, they danced in savage triumph over his lifeless body.
The entire Mitford area is now shrouded in grief, outrage, and fear.
It is a horrifying testament to how far humanity can fall.
I am not raising questions here about how much the lives of ordinary people have improved under the previous or the current government.
I only want to say — when the justice system in a country is this weak and helpless, it is hard to expect anything better.
I shudder to think: how much more brutality, how much more savagery must I witness in the days to come?
How much further will this country, this society, descend into darkness?
This Politics Is Despicable to Me
When politics is waged on the blood and death of people —
When power struggles turn human beings into prey —
That kind of politics is despicable to me.
I have nothing but disgust and condemnation for such political programs and practices that have fostered this culture of barbarity.
On the altar of justice, it seems the conscience of society itself now lies dead.
