India’s Vaccination Platform to Become Open-Source

Daily Star: India’s digital platform, which is powering the “world’s largest Covid-19 vaccination drive” in the country, will soon be made available to all countries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said today.
He said India is committed to sharing its expertise and resources with the global community in combating the pandemic.
“Our technology platform for Covid vaccination — the platform we call Covid WIN — is being prepared to be made open-source so (that) it will be available in all countries,” Modi said.
Covid Win is the platform through which India has administered 350 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines, with a maximum of 9 million vaccinations in one-day till now. Modi emphasised that people do not need to carry around fragile pieces of paper to prove anything. It is all available in digital format.
“But best of all, the software can be customised for any country as per their local requirements.
“Right from the beginning of the pandemic, India has been committed to sharing our experiences, expertise, and resources with the global community in this battle,” Modi said, adding “despite all our constraints, we have tried to share as much as possible with the world.”
Noting that technology is integral to India’s fight against Covid-19, Modi said luckily software is one area without resource constraints.
“That’s why we made our Covid-19 tracing and tracking open source as soon as it was technically feasible,” he said.
