Chaos erupts as gunfire breaks out moments before the cake-cutting ceremony

Stockton, California — A routine family birthday celebration turned into a horrifying tragedy when gunfire erupted just as a 2-year-old’s birthday cake was about to be cut. Four people were killed and 11 others injured in the attack.
According to local police and eyewitnesses, more than 100 guests were present at the party on Saturday evening. The armed assailants opened fire suddenly, sending guests scrambling to the floor in panic as chaos spread throughout the venue.

• Fatalities: 4 — three children (ages 8, 9, and 14) and one 21-year-old young adult
• Injured: 11; one critically hospitalized
• 14-year-old victim: Amari Peterson; the family stated he was completely innocent and not involved in any gang activity
