The Incident
On Monday morning, Sanjay was waiting with friends outside a Dunkin’ Donuts on his way to school. According to investigators, the suspect arrived on a scooter and got into a dispute with the group. Moments later, he allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Sanjay in the head.
The victim was rushed to Cohen’s Children’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A Queens judge remanded him to custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for September 29. If convicted, the teen could face 25 years to life in prison.
Reactions
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz condemned the killing, saying:
“The senseless shooting of a 13-year-old child is a devastating tragedy for his family and our community. This is yet another example of meaningless gun violence destroying lives.”
New York City Mayor Eric Adams suggested the incident may have been connected to local gang tensions.
Community Concerns
The tragedy has left neighbors and parents deeply shaken. Many are calling for stronger efforts from both law enforcement and the community to address youth violence and the easy availability of firearms.
