63-Year-Old Woman Found Unresponsive With Severe Head Trauma; Police Arrest 36-Year-Old Man

— A 63-year-old woman was beaten to death in Central Park, and a 36-year-old man has been charged with murder in what authorities say is the park’s first homicide in years.
Police responded to a 911 call at about 9:43 a.m. Sunday near East Drive and East 74th Street, where officers found the woman unconscious and unresponsive with severe trauma to her head. EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the woman, who appeared to have been living in the park, was struck in the head with a stick. Her identity has not been released pending notification of her family.
Police arrested Jonathan Robles, 36, Sunday night. He faces charges of murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Authorities said Robles is a resident of the Barbour Hotel, a Midtown homeless shelter.
