Year : 2, Issue : 18
Most of the conscious people around the world, including Westerners and Americans, see Israel as a nation that disrupts peace but condone its atrocities against Palestinians. Its like Bosola, a character from John Websters tragedy “The Duchess of Malfi,” who was complicated and morally unclear. In the story, Bosola tries to make things right in the end but tragically meets his own demise. Similarly, Israel hasn resolved its issues yet, and the harm caused may be irreparable for years.
The Western world began an uproar after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7 last year. The Israeli forces jumped into an all-out war in Gaza with the help of the United States (US) and Western powers in the name of self-defense. Again, the Western powers were silent when Israel stormed the Iranian consulate building on April 1, 2024, in the Syrian capital, killing seven officials, including the senior commander of Irans elite Quds Force, Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, and his deputy, Brigadier General Mohammad Hadi Haji-Rahimi.
After the hateful assassination, Iran announced that it would take revenge. As part of that, on April 13, Iran retaliated by launching hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel. Israels President Benjamin Netanyahu called for a United Nations (UN) meeting after Irans attack. The truth is that Israel never listens to the decisions or words of the UN. This puts the UN in a risky situation, with its authority being disregarded.
The Vienna Convention on International Diplomatic Relations clearly states that consulates located in other countries are sovereign territories of the respective countries. Hence, the bombing of Israel on Iranian diplomatic facilities in Syria is undoubtedly a serious violation against Article 51 of the UN Charter. Both the UN and the Western nations have not created any kind of understanding to resolve the issue rather they stood beside Israels crime resulting in an Iranian counterattack on Israel.
On April 13, the US, Canada, and the European Union condemned Irans attack on Israel, classifying Tehran as an aggressor. The Western powers consciously have never brought up in the discussion of Irans right to self-defense. Rather, they always shed crocodile tears only supporting Israels self-defense. The Wests double standards in international politics are ridiculous. They give weapons and money to Israel, knowing its used to harm civilians in Gaza. Then they send minimal aid through paratroopers to starving people.
Israels aggressive actions in the Gaza war have embarrassed and troubled the Arab world. According to a Chatham House article, the attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus by Israel was unprecedented. The April 1 attack appears to be a deliberate attempt to neutralize Irans leadership through direct confrontation. In such a situation, Irans defensive response is not only understandable but also expected from any sovereign nation with dignity.
On April 12, 2024, US President Joe Biden cautioned Iran against any potential attacks on Israel. Subsequently, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met with Iraqs Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ali Tamim to emphasize the importance of avoiding any escalation of hostilities with Iran.
The US has pledged unwavering protection for its personnel in Israel in the event of an Iranian attack. Such unequivocal backing signifies a clear bias toward Israel, effectively legitimizing its aggressive actions while disregarding Tehrans right to self-defense.
Irans attack has favored Israel and its allies, diverting peoples attention away from other issues. The Gaza conflict has largely dominated discussions, overshadowing talks of a ceasefire. As a result, Israel is preparing for perpetuating conflicts in areas like Lebanon and Syria, with alleged illegal support from Western and American entities under the guise of self-defense.
Western observers and analysts are primarily focused on Irans attack and its impact on Palestinians, often overlooking Israels historical crimes against Palestine and global condemnation of its actions. This blind support in the name of Israels self-defense is perceived as propaganda and ill machination of prevailing domination and anarchy ultimately leading to self damnation as evidenced by lessons drawn from history.
