More Than 165,000 New Yorkers Vote Early In First Weekend

More than 165,000 New Yorkers cast ballots during the first two days of early voting in the 2026 general election, according to data from the city’s Board of Elections.
By the close of polls Sunday, 165,143 voters had checked in across the five boroughs, up from 86,215 on Saturday, the first day of early voting.
Brooklyn recorded the highest turnout over the two days, with 47,177 voters, followed by Manhattan with 46,314 and Queens with 40,281. The Bronx recorded 17,595 check-ins, while Staten Island had 13,776.
Some voters lined up before polls opened Saturday, hoping to beat the crowds and cast their ballots early.
“I was so happy to see there’s a few people in front of me, and everybody else is doing the same thing, getting out to exercise their right to vote. And it’s thrilling, honestly,” voter Ann Marie Rakovic said.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art was among the early voting sites across the city, offering voters a chance to cast their ballots at one of New York’s best-known cultural institutions.
“It’s a bit of a spectacle to get to vote at the Met,” voter Jack Vogtle said. “And we were out playing tennis in Central Park, so it made for a good Saturday.”
Voters are deciding races for governor, comptroller and state attorney general, along with contests for state and local representatives and five ballot initiatives.
For some, like Vogtle, the cost of living is a central issue in the election. Others, like Susan Sherman, said a range of issues are motivating her.
“What am I not passionate about? I think it’s more the case, whether it’s, you know, the cost of living, whether it’s the war in Iran, whether it’s the tariffs, whether it’s the environment,”
