Global warming is the gradual increase in the average temperature on planet Earth. Starting from 1950s, when industry begun to cause increasing pollution, the average temperature has been on the rise. This rise in temperature is being felt all over the world and it affects our daily lives. It is also causing a host of other problems; problems that are very costly to deal with. And in many cases, the problems caused by global warming are not even solvable. In this paper, we will discuss the causes and effects of global warming, as well as take a look at a few methods to slow it down or stop it entirely.
Natural causes of global warming include the trajectory of planet Earth in relation to the Sun. As we get closer to the start, temperatures rise on our planet. This is not something the human race can stop. Other natural causes or global warming are earthquake eruptions and the El Nino Southern Oscillation. These too cannot be prevented. Human causes however, can be influenced by our actions and behavior. The most important cause of global warming is the emission of greenhouse gases – carbon dioxide and methane. These two gases trap the heat and prevent it from escaping into the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is released by burning fossil fuels, burning coal, and burning natural gas. Methane is released mainly from areas where intensive cattle raising is taking place and from garbage dumps.
Because the temperatures are rising, the polar ice cap is slowly melting. This causes the climate at the poles to change and the ocean levels to rise. Climate change forces various species to migrate, seeking cooler areas; areas that are slowly disappearing. Many species are already extinct because of global warming, and many more will follow unless we manage to stop the warming.
Global warming increases the occurrence of extreme weather phenomena. This puts human lives in danger and causes trillions of dollars in damages every year. Human health is put at risk by rising temperatures. Our elderly and our infants are the most vulnerable. Extreme temperatures during summer months are causing periodic heat waves that have the potential to kill. More than 2,500 Indians have died in 2015 when a heat wave hit the country.
In conclusion, it has already become clear that global warming is a very serious issue – one that we cannot neglect. If we keep it up at this page, the world will be a very inhospitable place in less than 100 years. We can take steps to slow down global warming. For example, we must ensure that our industry slowly stops burning fossil oil. We can use electric or solar power to power our motor vehicles. Also, we can stop deforestation and plant ne forests every year. Even changing out habits can result in a substantial reduction in pollution. Things like not wasting water, taking the bus to work, reducing energy consumption, and recycling can make a huge difference if enough people do it.
