Police have pulled more than 3,000 guns from New York City streets since the beginning of January, the NYPD said Tuesday.
In a press release, the agency said it has seized 3,259 guns so far in 2026, including 915 in Brooklyn, 782 in the Bronx, 764 in Manhattan, 605 in Queens and 193 on Staten Island.
Of those, 199 were so-called “ghost guns,” or firearms that lack traceable serial numbers, the NYPD said.
In a statement, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the seizures helped push shootings and murders to historic lows in the first seven months of the year.
“This milestone is a direct result of our precision-policing strategy: putting officers where and when they are needed most, identifying the drivers of violence, and taking guns off our streets,” Tisch said.
The NYPD logged 381 shooting incidents between the beginning of January and the end of July, down from the previous record low of 412 incidents set during that time last year.
