NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — A travel advisory is in effect in New York City as heavy rain and possible flash flooding are expected to hit the region.
The travel advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. on Wednesday; however, New Yorkers should remain wary as a flood watch is in effect until Wednesday evening.

Isolated thunderstorms and showers are expected throughout Tuesday.
The peak is expected in the late afternoon and evening, with heavy rain bringing several inches of precipitation to many areas in the region. Some of the severe thunderstorms may contain wind gusts of 60 to 70 mph, which could bring down trees and power lines.
Officials are urging New Yorkers to plan extra travel time and to be cautious while traveling. Anyone who lives in a basement apartment should be prepared to move to higher ground.
New Yorkers should avoid driving or walking through flooded streets and into flooded subway stations.
