A storm system will move through the region, bringing soaking rain to the tri-state area, according to the latest forecast models.
The system is expected to arrive late Wednesday as an area of low pressure and pass through the area overnight into Thursday morning.
Expected rainfall amounts range from one-half to one inch over the area with locally higher amounts.
This will be beneficial rain as much of the area is currently experiencing moderate drought conditions.
Central Park, LaGuardia Airport, and Newark Airport are all over three inches behind on rainfall for 2026.
While widespread flooding is not expected, there may be ponding on roadways as well as nuisance flooding in poor drainage areas. This may lead to hazardous travel in some local spots.
Travelers should leave extra time to get to and from their destination. Air travel may see some flight delays early Thursday morning
The system is expected to move out of the area by Thursday afternoon, and conditions will improve for Friday.
